Warren D Cross M.D. is a founder of Warren Cross and Associates and The Laser Vision Center, West Loop in the Galleria Area.
EDUCATION
Dr. Warren D Cross received his undergraduate education from the University of Southern California. As part of his undergraduate studies, he attended Cambridge University in England. His formal medical education was at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He did his internship at The Methodist Hospital, Houston, followed by active duty as a US Air Force flight surgeon. After serving as a flight surgeon, he held a residency with the University of Texas Medical Branch, Houston Ophthalmology Faculty. After training with Dr. Charles Kelman in New York, he was actively involved in cataract surgery courses. He also served as an emergency room doctor in Houston.
LEADING THE TECHNOLOGY REVOLUTION
LASIK
Dr. Cross was also a CO-investigator for Summit Technology and was involved in the FDA study of the excimer laser for the surgical correction of myopia and hyperopia and of the holmium laser for glaucoma treatment. Dr. Cross started and serves on the Board of Directors of the Laser Eye Institute of Houston. Dr. Cross has been very actively involved in research for better eye care and treatment.
SURGICAL REVERSAL OF PRESBYOPIA
Another intense area of research since early 1993 has been the surgical correction of presbyopia (the need for "readers" or "bifocals" as one ages). Dr. Cross served as chief surgeon, with Dr. Ron Schachar and, later, Dr. Richard Yee, in developing the surgical techniques, instruments, and preoperative and post-operative protocols for surgically correcting presbyopia. Dr. Cross is currently the senior surgical consultant for PresbyCorp--the resulting company that has begun FDA studies at this time. Dr. Cross has been the Presby Corp Surgical Mentor for 3 US Centers, Canada, and Korea.
NTERNATIONAL GLAUCOMA FDA STUDY
Dr. Cross is heading up an International study of 150 patients to evaluate the efficacy of using the Scleral Expansion Bands to lower intraocular pressure in chronic open angle glaucoma.
MULTIPLE FDA DRY EYE STUDIES
Dr. Cross has completed heading up 4 FDA studies evaluating the efficacy of Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic solution). These studies evaluated approximately 125 patients. The study groups are mild to moderate dry eyes, contact lens with dry eyes, with and without inflammatory reaction, and Rosacea. In addition, he is currently studying the economic impact of 250 additional patients using a different solution. This data will be used for determining medical costs/savings for patients, physicians and insurance companies. The initial report is anticipated in May 2000, and the final report was presented in November 2000.
LASER SKIN RESURFACING AND WRINKLE REMOVAL
Technology has advanced so greatly and rapidly in recent years that sophisticated lasers make skin resurfacing and wrinkle removal possible. Dr. Cross has been a Course Instructor for the newest of these technologies, the Derma-K. This is a machine that uses the carbon dioxide CO? and the Pulse Erbium Laser simultaneously to maximize quicker healing.
